About the Community of Orono

This Lake Minnetonka community is sparsely populated with estate homes, hobby farms and working farms. The extensive open fields and wooded trails make it a popular area for horseback-riding enthusiasts. Those who prefer other activities take advantage of the lake throughout the year, and Big Island is a popular destination. The University of Minnesota Freshwater Biological Institute is located in Orono. Because Orono is almost exclusively residential, the shopping needs of its residents are filled primarily by larger neighboring communities such as Long Lake and Wayzata.
